Page 26 The State of Mato Grosso used to be even bigger than already is. The independence aspiration of the inhabitants from where today is the State of Mato Grosso do Sul came to reality on 1977 when the Federal Government officially created that new federation state. 357,140 km2 was dismembered from Mato Grosso in order to create the south neighbour state.

BIRTH OF CUIABA CITY

The expedition leaded by [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascoal_Moreira_Cabral_Leme]Pascoal Moreira Cabral Leme[/url] that, on the year of 1719, reached the shores of the rivers Coxipo and Cuiaba, and precious gold fields were found. The news of the gold field just found spread like fire on gunpowder, and the gold run began. In April 8 1720 the Settlement of Cuiaba was created and Cabral Leme praised the highest authority over that territory.

If you check out the original [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tordesillas]Treaty of Tordesillas[/url], signed in June 1494 which divides the new world between Portugal and Castela (today Spain), you would conclude that it was actually against portuguese crown best interest. At that time the entirely Mato Grosso territory, as well as other parts of Brazil, became property of the Spanish crown. Therefore that imaginary line drawn by this treaty never was a hamper in the way of the scalawag Portugueses.

CALDAS NOVAS AND ITS THERAPEUTIC NATURAL HOT WATER SPRINGS (THERMAL WATER)

Caldas Novas is located in the Brazilian State of Goias and is nationally well known for its great abundance of naturally hot sources of water offspringing from the deepness of the terrestrial crust forming lakes, creeks and rivers in its inner and surrounded areas.
The water streams formed by these hot sources have temperatures reaching 37oC to 57oC. Besides its hot waters, Caldas Novas is surrounded by pleasant lakes, waterfalls, many kinds of birds and a beautiful view of the mountain ridge.
